Bayanda Mzoneli has been an activist since 1993. He first joined the ANC at Manguzi, in KwaZulu Natal, in 1993 in the aftermath of the tragedy of 11 April that year. He has since served in various roles and different levels in the ANCYL, SASCO and the ANC. These include ANCYL in Ward 23 (Empangeni) in Musa Dladla Region in KZN, ANCYL Mantech Branch (Umlazi) in Ethekwini Region in KZN and SASCO PEC in KZN, as well as National Sub-Committees of the ANCYL. The most prominent role were the two terms he served as a member of the National Executive Committee of SASCO in 2005 and 2006. He is currently a member of the ANC Branch Executive Committee at the King Nyabela Mahlangu Branch in Ward 05 (Montana), Greater Tshwane Region.

Comrade Bayanda is a dedicated, and experienced, public servant who has served in seven national government departments over the past 15 years.

He holds an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology and is currently reading for a Masters in Applied Leadership and Management at the Arizona State University.
